SETTLER LOSES LIFE
RESCUING A HORSE THROWN INTO RIVER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] BLENHEIM, Tuesday Rain has been falling continuously since Sunday, and though there are no signs of floods, the rivers are higher than at any time for three years. This morning Mr. Joseph Glover, a well-known Lower Wairau settler, ventured into a river bed to rescue a horso which was marooned. He was riding it back to the bank when it stumbled into a deep hole. He was thrown into the water and, being encumbered by gumboots and heavy clothing, wtft drowned. His body was recovered half an hour later. Mr. Glover was aged 47, and was married with three children..
