OBITUARY
MR. J. R. TURNER Tho death has occurred at Waiuku of Mr. James Robert Turner. He was born at Woolwich, England, in 1596, and was tho eldest son of Mr. James Turner and tho late Mrs. Turner, of Waiuku. Tlip family came to Australia in 1907 and a year later came to New Zealand, finally settling in Waiuku in 1917. Mr Turner served in the Great War, going with tho 23rd Reinforcements. On his return to take up farming he married Miss Agnes Smith. Ho was a keen sportsman and played football, cricket and hockey. Ho was captain of tho hockey team that played against tho touring Indian Army team at Waiuku in 192(3. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters, MR. A. 33. PANTHER [by TELEGRAM —OWN' correspondent] KAIITAIa, Saturday Tho'death has occurred in tho County Hospital, Kaitaia, after a short illness, of Mr. Alfred Ernest Panther, of Victoria Valley, at the ago of 69 years. Mr. Panther was born in England and came to Now Zealand with his parents when a boy. Tho family took up land in* Valley, where Mr. Panther had resided ever since. Mr. Panther took a keen interest in cricket, and at one timo ho played for tho Mangonui County. He was a member of tho Victoria Valley School Committee for many years and for a time held the position of chairman. In 1900 Mr. Panther married Miss Kitchen, tho daughter of one of tho early settlers in Victoria Valley. Ho is survived by his wife, two daughters and five sons. MR. EDWARD KELLAND [by TELEGRAPH —I'll ESS association] TIMARU, JJaturday Tho death has occurred of Mr. Edward Kelland, at the ago of 37 years. Mr. Kelland arrived in New Zealand in 186-1 and lived in South Canterbury for tho greater part of his life. He was recognised as one of the best breeders of English Loicestershircs in tho Dominion, and he was a well-known exhibitor and judge at numerous shows.
