REMARKABLE DISPLAYS WHAKAREWAREWA GEYSERS SPECTACLE FOR VISITORS FINE SHOTS BY POHUTU f*BY TELEGRAPH —PREBS ASSOCIATION] ROTORUA, Wednesday The greatest display of thermal activity seen at Rotorua for a number of years took place to-day, when no fewer than 10 geysers at Whakarewarewa played at different times during the day. Pohutu geyser sent up 13 spectacular shots during the morning and afternoon, the column of steam and water rising nearly 100 ft. during the early shots and gradually becoming Jess during the afternoon. This is the third occasion during the winter that Pohutu has played after lying practically dormant for n considerable period. At one period to-day the Waikorohihi, Waikite, Pohutu and Prince of Wales' Feathers geysers were all playing practically simultaneously, presenting a most spectacular sight. In addition, the Tukuhu geyser, in the native reserve, which has been quiescent for the past two years, sent up shots of mud and water to a height of over 20ft., while two smaller geysers adjacent to it also showed signs of activity. The Kereru geyser, near Pohutu, also played on several occasions during the day, while the Papakura geyser was playing continuously. It is generally believed that the higher levels of Laljes Rotorua and Rotoiti, which have been 15in. to 18in. higher during the winter than in previous years, are stimulating thermal activity in the district.
