FOURSOMES PLAY

TWO FURTHER SUCCESSES ALTERATIONS IN TEAMS AUSTRALIANS AGAIN ON TOP The New Zealanders fared no better in the foursomes than in the single.*, the play of the visitors again being more consistent. Mrs. Dodgshun replaced Miss Stevens in the New Zealand team, partnering Miss BarnsGraham, while in the Australian second pair Miss Bailey took the place of Miss Las wiles.

Having been recently successful in the Australian foursomes, Misses Kay and Gaisford were expected to make a good showing. This they did to the turn, wherp they were only one down, but they fared badly later 011. Halves in fours and fives were followed by an Australian success 011 the third, where Miss Kay was too strong on the green, her partner missing the return putt. Miss Macl/ood and Miss Gaisford both drove into the left bunkers at the fourth, Miss Hammond just chipping on to the top ledge. Miss MacLeod's third was too strong, and a weak putt by her partner enabled the New Zealanders to draw level. A better approach by Miss Kay, followed by a successful 15-foot putt by her team mate, saw them assume the lead at the fifth.

Miss Kay was baulked when about to putt on the sixth by the blowing on to the green of a spectator's hat. Miss Gaisford cut her putt and the match was again square. The seventh was halved, and the Australian pair took the lead once more when Miss Hammond sank an 8-foot putt, Miss Kay failing with one a little shorter. A half in five saw the visitors turn on« up. Out of Bounds

The tenth was also halved in five. Miss Hammond put her iron at the 11th 25ft. from the pin, whereas Miss Kay went through the green. Her partner approached well, only to see Miss Kay miss the putt, and Australia became 2 up. Playing in a particularly heavy downpour, both Miss Gaisford and Miss MacLeod had nice drives into the wind, but, when the firstnamed pushed her third out of bounds, the hole was conceded to the Australians.

The New Zealand pair took four shots to reach the Wrecker green, compared with their opponents' three, and Miss MacLeod putted to within inches, to place her team 4 up. A half in four occurred at the 14th. Both Miss Hammond and Miss Kay cleared the gully 'at Temptation, the last-named being about 50yds. further wi"r,h her drive. Miss MacLeod mishit the second and finished 60yds'. short of the green. Both were on in three, however, Miss Kay having chipped to within 6ft. of the pin. Miss MacLeod putted dead and half-stymied Miss Gaisford, who negotiated the difficulty with a very fine effort, reducing Australia's lead to 3. A half in four at the 16th, where Miss Gaisford made a gallant attempt to hole her putt, ended the game in favour of Australia. Good Recovery

In the second foursomes match the Australian captain, Mrs. Robinson, and Miss Barns-Graham drove off from the same tees, while Miss Bailey and Mrs. Dodgshun were paired. After mood drives, both sides putted indifferently at the first, and the hole was halved in fives. Miss Bailey's long drive at the second found the rough, but her partner made a good recovery. Meanwhile Mrs. Dodgshun had to play out of the bricks on the road, a six resulting to the Australians' five. The strong gusts made the next a hard hole, but Miss Bailey played a great second to pave the way for another win, this time in four. The Australians became three up when Mrs. Robinson holed a 12ft. putt at the fourth, after Mrs. Dodgshun's tee shot was bunkered. A good putt by Miss Barns-Graham, after both sides were lying handy in three at the next, gave the New Zealanders a hole back, and at the sixth the same player contributed to a win in five with a sound approach. Mrs. Robinson found the seventh green from the tee, while the New Zcalanders could do no better than a five and lost, and the eighth was halved in fours. The Australians turned three up when their opponents were bunkered with a short approach. „ , , A 00ft. putt by Mrs. Dodgshun at the tenth was countered by one on the part of Mrs. Robinson, and the hole was lost. Miss Bailey chipped back neatlv at the Redan, while Mrs. Dodgshun had to play from well wide of the green, the Australians becoming five up with a three. After the 12th had been halved in poor sevens, the New Zcalanders took one back at the Wrecker with a five. Miss Barns-Graham again did a two at the 14th, but a wellplayed four at the next gave the Australians the game and the match.

PRESENTATION OF OUP WINNING TEAM CONGRATULATED Shortly after the conclusion of the foursomes matches yesterday afternoon, the spectators and members of the Australian' and New Zealand teams assembled on the verandah of the clubhouse, where the Tasman Cup was presented to Mrs. Robinson, captain of the visiting team, by Mm. S. Lawrence, president of the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Union. In doing so, Mrs. Lawrence said she thought the New Zealanders were fortunate in gaining possession 'of the trophy last year.
