"DUCHESS OF DANTZIC"
The Mareo Operatic Society's premiere production, "Duchess of Dantzic," is enjoying a successful season at His Majesty's Theatre. Tho play, which is a romantic light opera, from the pen of Ivan Caryll, is notable for tho brilliant and lavish staging Tho story opens in tho disturbed days of tho French Revolution prior to the taking of the Tuilleries and culminates at the height of Napoleon's power. \\ ith a wealth of dramatic incident, tho plot tells of the meteoric rise to favour of a simple washerwoman, Catherine Uepscher, or "Sans-Geno," who later becomes the Duchess of Dantzic. This difficult role is taken by Tholma Mareo, who acts with vivacity, charm and understanding. Tho part also carries with it many delightful songs, of which the soliloquy, "Tho Mirror Song," is perhaps the finest. There is a talented cast of supporting players, a full chorus and a special ballet. Mr. Erio Mareo conducts an orchestra of 30 players. Tho season will concludo on Saturday night. Booking arrangements are advertised.
