GRETNA GREEN DASH
MINISTER'S SON AND GIRL A secret 200-mile dash to Grot 11 a Green in a small sports car by a Fife clergyman's son and his sweetheart was revealed at Pitlessie, Fife. The young couple, Mr. Douglas Porter, son of the Rev. William Porter, minister of Cults Church, Pitlessie, and Miss Elizabeth Bryson, of Cults Farm, surprised their parents by calmly announcing that that they had been wed over the anvil. . Their marriage was originally arranged to be held at Cupar in September, but determined to avoid the fuss of a formal ceremony the couple stole off to Gretna, leaving their relatives under the impression that they- were off for a day's motoring. Setting out early in the morning a five-hours journey saw them arrive at the famous smithy, and after ai hasty ceremonv the couple blissfully returned- " Wo made up our minds suddenly, Mr. Porter stated. " We decided it was the only course as the fuss and formality of a church ceremony did aot appeal to as."
