ARRESTED IN ERROR
UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE An unfortunate experience befell Mr. Percy Everest, of Maidstone, for after he had gone to the assistance of a constable who was being attacked, he found himself arrested when police reinforcements arrived. . Amends were made when, in tne local court, he was thanked by the Mayor, Alderman William Day, tor going to the assistance of the police. "It is unfortunate that you got run in as well," the Mayor added. It was stated that at night there was a disturbance in Maidstone High Street. Constable Pinn was struggling on the ground with Cyril Porter, and was surrounded by a crowd of several hundred peoplo, when Everest went to his asEverest seized the constable's truncheon and began to beat off Porter. Other police arrived, and in the melee which followed Everest was arrested with Porter and taken to the police station. • , , Porter was sentenced to three months imprisonment for assaulting the officer and Pncd 10s for being drunk and disorderly.
