BULL KILLS SPECTATOR
SWORD TOSSED INTO STAND MAN'S HEART PIERCED A spectator at a bull fight in Corunna was lately killed by a matador's sword which had been knocked out of the arena by a frenzied bull. The victim, Senor Koig Rouran, had been watching the famous Spanish matador, Juan Belmonte, from the fifth row of the grandstand. Belmonte was administering the fatal thrust, the sword having just entered the bull's neck, when tho animal tossed its head. The keen blade soared through the air
into tho stand, where it penetrated llouran's breast. Rourun staggered, but pulled the sword from hi it breast and tried to throw it back into the ring. The sword fell short, however, and struck a spectator across the knees, inflicting grave wounds on his legs. Both the injured men were rushed to hospital, but Rouran died as ho was being placed on the operating table The accident mars the splendid career of Juan Belmonte, and such is the superstition among bull-fighters and fans that it is regarded as a grave omen for his future. Belmonte is one of the most daring and sought-after matadors in Spain. He reappeared in the bull-ring at Nimos in July after an absence of seven years. He returned, in spite of an oath made to his wife, because "bull-fighting is in my blood."
