FARMERS' UNION

RESTORATION OF WAGES The restoration of wage cuts was considered at a meeting of the Auckland executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union this week. The following resolution was passed:—"This executive suggests that instead of restoring wage cuts municipal and other corporations should take on more employees, thus lessehing tl*p number of that in view of the position of the ordinary primary producer who must ultimately bear any increased costs in the way of additional wages charges, we consider that the general restoration of wages cuts is not warranted until such time as the economic position of the Dominion is greatly improved; that the economic position of this country can only bo assured by measures which will assure and stabilise the purchasing power of primary and secondary producers alike." A resolution was passed to the effect that the tariff concessions granted by the Government to Gseat Britain were in no way commensurate with the generous treatment received by the Dominion in the past. It was decided to ask the Meat Producers' Board to take steps to see that bobby calves, frozen and in store, did not come into competition with other meat at a later date.
