RAILWAYS IN NORTH
GAP NEAR DARGAVILLE NEED FOR COMPLETION Support of a 'resolution passed at a public meeting at Dar Ravi lie urging the completion, of the sis-mile cap in the railway line between Tangowahine and Dargaville was given at yesterday's meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. The support was given on the understanding that the Northern Wairoa district was prepared to .give assurances that it would give the completed line reasonable support. It was stated that the closing of the gap would give through rail communication from Auckland to Donnelly's Crossing, a distance of 163 miles. Mention was made of the uneconomic working due to 11 miles of the line from Waiotira Junction being operated by the Public Works Department, and 14 miles by the Railway Department, the rapid depreciation under present conditions of the uncompleted portion of the line, and the additional traffic and economies of operation that would come about with the completion of the gap.
