CANADA'S QUINTUPLETS Jjj WARDB OF THE STATE CIRCUMVENTING SHOWMEN ■ Canada's most famous persons—the five children born on May 28 to Mr. and Mrs. Ovila Dionne, of Northern 7 Ontario —are now under the official protection of the Province of On. tario. A Court order appointing * board of five guardians has been obtained by the Government as the most effective means of circumventing the efforts of Chicago promoters who wished to exhibit the children at the World's Fair in that city, and who held a contract signed by the father of the quintuplets. Heading the board of guardians i| Dr. A. R. Dafoe, the country doctor whose fame now is world-wide through the skill and success with which he / has cared for his celebrated patients. Mr. Oliver Dionne, the babies' grandfather, represents the family. As the babies —called "world figures" in the judgment of a Chicago Court —approached the end of their third month and a joint weight of 251b., erection was started of * modern brick dwelling where every facility will be provided for their care." It is to be called "The Dafoe Hospital for the Dionne Quintuplets," and ii being built with funds provided by the Canadian Red Cross, the Ontario Government and private sources. Yvonne and Annette. continue heaviest of the infants, and by midAugust were close to 61b. each. Cecile was nearing 51b., and Emilie had passed 41b. Marie, the smallest of the five, had to receive radium treatment for a tumor on her left hip, but was overcoming the handicap and proaching 41b.
