A DANGEROUS BEND

Sir, —I am a resident of Remuera, on the Great South Road, between Market Road and the iVlanukau Road junction, and I feel righteously compelled to pass an opinion on the extreme lack of care exercised by motorists when travelling round the only bend in this stretch of the road. Already there are notices on both sides of the road, indicating the proximity of a school, but whereas it is easy to see traffic approaching from town, any person on the other side of the road and near this bend (which is near the entrance of Dilworth Avenue), is unable to see approaching traffic proceeding townwards. This would not be so bad, were it not that, contrary to the expected slowing of speed for a bend, and in respect for a notice, the motor traffic seems to find cause for acceleration, until at times this corner resembles photographs we see of Brooklands track. For residents of the vicinity it is quite nerve-racking to have to cross the road at this point without running, but it must be positively dangerous to any boys from the neighbouring school, especially, as I believe, some of them are quite small. Furthermore, the fact that the warning notices exhibit a speed limit of 15 m.p.h., seems to be one either accidentally or intentionally overlooked by a large percentage of the motorists who use this road.
