WAIROA FREEZING WORKS
KILLING IN NOVEMBER CHILLED BEEF FACILITIES [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] GISBORNE, Wednesday That it is hoped to have the Wairoa freezing works ready to commence killing operations about the middle of November and that facilities for dealing with chilled beef would be installed were points mentioned by the chairman, Mr. J. S. Jessep, at the annual meeting of the Wairo.i Farmers' Cooperative Meat Company, Limited. Mr. Jessep explained in detail the agreement between Swifts (New Zealand), Limited, and the Wairoa company. It was hoped, Mr. Jessep said, to have the works completed in time to hand them over to Swifts to commence killing operations about the middle of November next. Swifts were spending a great deal extra apart from what the Wairoa company had contracted to do. The killing board was to be altered to the chain killing system, and new plant also was being installed for the hog killing. Facilities for dealing with chilled beef were being provided, and in this connection Mr. Jessep said that difficulties were forthcoming in connection with the transport and shipping, but the company purchasing the works was doing all it could to overcome these difficulties.
After the business of the meeting the chairman introduced Mr. 0. R. Kresse, of Swifts (New Zealand), Limited. Mr. Kresse assured the members that Swifts would buy whatever was produced, and they would always pay full market value. They were pleased to be in Wairoa, and were satisfied that it was a good district.
