LADIES' GOLF

INTER-ISLAND CONTEST TEAMS FOR TO-DAY'S MATCH " BOGEY AND MEDAL DRAWS CHAMPIONSHIP TO-MORROW The programme in connection with the tinnual New Zealand ladies' golf championship tournament will be commenced on the Titirangi Golf Club's links this morning, with the playing of the annual intei'-island match. Play'in the championship proper will commence tomorrow morning at nine o'clock. The first pair to tee off this morning will be Misses 0. ; Kay and B. Gaisford, . and thejr first meeting in match play since last season will be followed with a great deal of interest. Of the two Miss Gaisford did better in- singles competition in Great Britain mid in Australia, and their play to-day should give some line as to their prospects in the championship, of which Miss Kay ,s the holder. Miss Gaisford was runner-up at Wanganui last year. In view of the selection of the team to represent New Zealand against the Australian ladies in the annual contest for the Tasman Cup next Wednesday, the results of all the other matches today will not be lacking in general interest. New Zealand players who will take part in the inter-island match and other competitions practised at Titirangi yesterday morning. The Australian ladies spent the morning at Middlemore, where they remained for lunch as the guests of the Auckland Ladies' Club. _ N With the exception of Miss Joan Hammond and Miss L. Bailey the members of 'the Australian team spent a quiet day walking round the Jinks. Tfcß two players mentioned had a little practice at some of the holes. Miss Bailey had the misfortune to break, her driver, but it will be mended in time for her to use sjlgain on Friday.
