EXPENSIVE LAPSE
SYDNEY "JAY-WALKER" OFFENCE COSTS OVER £26 The Sydney police still have some difficulty in preventing "jay-walking" in the city. The 00-operation with the public in the new system of foot-traffic regulation has made considerable progress, but it is not yet complete, and men on point duty are still wording hard. There was an instance at the Police Court recently of a simple case of "jay-v/alkinE" leading to a defendant being heavily fined. A reproof by a police sergeant led to a "jay-walker" assaulting the sergeant. The offender was ordered to pay £26 13s 4d in fines, costs and. compensation.
