CLIMBERS' ORDEAL
MAROONED IN ICE-CAVE BLIZZARDS IN HIMALAYAS (Received September 15. 12.15 a.m.) CALCUTTA, Sept. 14 To be marooned for eight days in an ice-cave on a Himalayan peak at an altitude of 22,000 feet during terrific blizzards was the experience of 14 members of the Karakoram International Expedition, which included German, Swiss, Italian, Austrian and American members. Frau Dyrhenfurth, wife of Professor Dyrhenfurth the leader of the party, has returned to Srinagar. She is a famous climber and has reached a height of 24,700 feet, which is higher than any other woman has climbed. She states that the party suffered terribly from the cold. She could not see for three days owing to snow-blindness.
