EVENTS AT ASHBURTON

INTEREST IN HANDICAP NEW ZEALAND CUP HORSES REVIEW OF THE FIELDS The spring meeting of the Ashburton County Racing Club takes place to-day. The principal event is the Ashburton Handicap, which has drawn a field of 11, all except Giggleswick and Coll being New Zealand Cup candidates. Telegraphing last evening our Christ-church-correspondent said the track had a good soaking early in the week but had since dried up and excellent going should be in evidence. The win and place system of betting will be used. The following may be well supported: Novice Stakes, First Division.— Trumpet Blast, Moonbeam, Orris. Longbeach Hack Handicap.—Cottingham, Elgindale, Sungem. Selina Trot Handicap.—Midshipmaid, Ironside, Paragon. Novice Stakes, Second Division.— Rebel Chief, Tuirau, Horn's Reef. Ashburton Handicap.—Silver Sight, Cleaner, Some Shamble. Penscroft Hack Handicap.—Travenna, Cheap Money, Master Reynard. Spring Handicap.—Fracas, Southdown, Manetho. Rakaia Trot Handicap. Moana Tama, Sky Wink, Acceptances:—

THE REDLOCK CASE ANOTHER ARREST MADE MELBOURNE, Sept. 14 After further inquiries into the Redlock case, tho police have arrested a man at Tallangatta on a charge of conspiracy. Inquiries are also being made in New Zealand. Under the name of Redlock a horse won the Trial Stokes at Murray Bridge, neur Adelaide, on July 18. being heavily supported. Subsequently it was alleged that the horse was in reality Erbie. and the owner-trainer C. Prince and the horse itself were disqualified for life by the South Australian Jockey Club stewards. Prince was then arrested on a charge of obtaining stake-money from the Murray Bridge Racing Club by false pretences. T. R. GEORGE'S TRANSFER TO TRAIN AT TRENTHAM [by tkj.f.graph—OWN correspondent] WANGANUI, Friday T. R. George, who headed the list of winning trainers in New Zealand last season, has decided to transfer his stable from Blenheim to Trentham. He is at present in Wangtinui with Synagogue, but will go to Trentham at the week-end to make arrangements for his arrival there with four horses, comprising Synagogue and a couple of young ones. PACER FOR HAMILTON NIMBUS IN C. MORAN'S TEAM The latest addition to C. Moran's team at Hamilton is the Canterbury pucer Nimbus, who for some time has been in M. B. 'Edwards' stable. Nimbuß is a useful sort and, although he does not win out of his turn, he has registered some good all-round performances. He has reached a line, 2.48, 3.24 and 4.35, where he is finding it difficult to win in the South, but with a chance of lighter opposition and classes to suit him in the Auckland Province, he should prove a reasonable proposition. TROTTING DERBY TEST MOANA TAMA AND IRONSIDE Three New Zealand Trotting Derby horscß, namely, Moana Tama, Ironside and Drag Harlan, are engaged in the trotting events at the Ashburton County Racing Club's meeting to-day, and more than ordinary interest will be taken in their displays. Moana Tama, winner of the New Zealand Sapling Stakes in June, is on the limit of the 3.2 Rakaia Handicap), and, as he is meeting a number of older and wellseasoned horses, the race should afford a useful Derby test for the Nelson Derby three-year-old. Ironside who is owned by Mr. W. Hosking, of Auckland, and Drag Harlan have not yet won, but the former has several minor places, and is not without prospects off the limit of the 3.5 Stlina Handicap. Ironside is from Gatwick. by Wrack, who is also sire of Moana Tama's dam. while Drag .Harlan, like Moana Tuma, is by Nelson Derby, his dnm being Denver's Doll. WAIKATO TROTTING CLUB Nominations for the Waikato Trotting Club's Spring Meeting on October (> close with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, Auckland, or the secretary, Mr. W. H. Allen, Hamilton, at 6 p.m. on Monday.
