TAURANGA BOROUGH
ERECTION OF BAND ROTUNDA; COUNCIL APPROVES OF WORK [from our own correspondent] TAURANGA, Friday The chairman of the Local Government Loans Board has advised the Tauranga Borough Council that the board had considered the council'# application to raise a loan of £595 to provide a ladies' rest room. The board declined to sanction the application. The council discussed the matter at it meeting this week and eventually decided that the rest room be erected out of revenue, subject to a confirmatory referendum of the ratepayers. The special committee set up to select a site for a band rotunda recommended that the rotunda be placed about halfway between the Strand station < and the town wharf, and that immediate steps be taken to proceed with the erection of the rotunda. The council adopted the report. It was stated that one ratepayer had offered £25 toward the cost of the rotunda and other substantial subscriptions would be forthcoming. The council had previously decided to grant # subsidy on donations. The matter was left in the hands of the Finance Committee with power to act. The inspector reported that during, the past month building permits to the value of £4064 had been issued.
