HITLER'S VICTORY
A COMMUNIST EXPLANATION " No serious attempt has yet been mad#," write the authors of " The Secrtfc of Hitler's Victory," "to answer the question how, In a great industrial country with a working class of high cultural standing, it was possible for a Hitler to destroy, within a few weeks, all the rights and liberties of the people and to gain unlimited power almost without any attempt at resistance. Yet this question is of vital importance." Of tne authors Peter Petroff is a Russian, and his wife, Irma Petroff, is a German; both are socialists and both are now exiles from their own countries. They believe the secret of Hitler's rise to power lay in the internal divisions within the German working class movement and in the failure of the Social Democratic Party, when in power, to adopt a clear-cut socialist policy. The book concludes with the declaration that the best defence of democracy is to be found in socialism. On this and other points the authors' opinions will be dispoted.
