MAN DIES ON BEN LOMOND
300 YARDS FROM SUMMIT After an aeroplane had been used on August 3, in the search for a man lost on Ben Lomond, his body was found by two visitors, 300 yards from the summit. They did not know anyone was missing. The dead climber, Mr. William Lippiatt, of Glasgow, was aged 65. Mr. Lippiatt drove with friends to Kinlochard, on the Aberfoyle side of the mountain, on the morning of August 2, and set out alone to climb Ben Lomond and across to Rowardennan, where the the car party was to meet him. As he did not appear after several hours, his friends raised the alarm. Search was made from both sides of the mountain, but the searchers returned unsuccessful early on August 3, when a fresh search was organised. The aeroplane was forced to return owing to the heavy mists. Searchers on foot were driven back by drenching rain and mist which became so dense that they themselves were in peril.
