GIFT HOUSE FOR SALE
MR. J. H. THOMAS' DECISION
A " For sale or to let " board lately stood outside the residence of Mr. J. H. Thomas, Secretary of State for the Dominion, in Thurlow Park-road, West Dulwich. This is the house which was presented to Mr. Thomas by the members of the National Union of Railwaymen, who contributed to a penny fund in recognition of the great work done by him on their behalf. The title deeds were presented to Mr. Thomas at a big gathering in London on April 4, 1920, and in addition Mrs. Thomas was given £SOO to assist her in furnishing the dwelling. This tribute to Mr. Thomas was one which had been earned by many years' work for the union, and the value of it was heightened by the fact that only a short time before—in the strike of 1919—Mr. Thomas had been the victim of considerable abuse. The great mass of railwaymen, however, felt tbat he should be given some recognition, and this house in Dulwich was a practical expression of their opinion. With all their children married, 'Mr. and Mrs. Thomas have found the Dulwich house too large for them, and latterly have been staying most of the time in town.
