PAY AT HOBSONVILLE
Sir,—l notice in Friday's Herald an article dealing with the scale of pay supposedly ruling at Hobsonville. It stated that for the first operation the men were paid from 2s 5d to 2s 8d per cubic yard, but it did not state that the top soil had to be shifted three times, averaging about 9£d a yard for each handling, and constituting practically half a dav's work per cubic yard. It was also stated that in the second operation prices ranged from Is to Is 6d per cubic yard. As the price laid down.to the workers was Is per cubic yard for ordinary clay and Is 3d for "shift clay, 1 fail to see where the Is 6d comes in. Possibly someone is going to make us a donation of .'id per yard. Hobsonville.
