REPRESENTATIVE FOOTBALL AUSTRALIANS AT HOCKEY Varied sport will be provided at Eden Park this afternoon, when the representative Rugby game between Auckland and Taranaki will bo preceded bv a hockey match between the touring Australian team and Auckland. In view of Auckland having won the Ranfurly Shield from Hawke'a Bay last, week, great interest will be taken in the game, especially as Taranaki has had a successful season in representative football The hockey match gives promise of being very fast and exciting, both teams fielding well-balanced combinations. Auckland has successfully defended the New Zealand Challenge Shield for four seasons, while the Australians have won the majority of their games in the Dominion. Between the two matches the final of the seven-a-side Rugby tournament between Marist. and Ponsonby will be decided. At Carlaw Park the principal liOague match will be a representative fixture between South Auckland and Auckland, and a fast and o|ten contest is anticipated. The curtain-raiser will be a second grade game between Papakura and Otahuhu. Eastern Suburbs will meet Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys in a replay for the Falcon Cup at Blandford Park, a second grade match between MetroCollege and New Lynn providing th#> curtain-raiser. Members of the Auckland Coif Chili will play the lirst qualifying round of the club, intermediate and junior championships the first round of the J. C. Burns' Memorial Cup, and the Xurscrv Handicap. Competitions will be held bv other golf clubs. Field days and runs have been arranged by various cycling and harrier clubs, while the basketball competitions will be continued at the Windmill Road courts.
