AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS The Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship for the Billiards, Limited, Shield was continued last .evening at Messrs. Billiards, 'Limited, showrooms, when T. Tierney defeated F. Taylor in their came of the second round. The. npatch was witnessed by a Jarge gathering. Tierney was in good form at the commencement and at his third visit to the table compiled an all-round break of .30, Taylor replying with 25. Tierney was the more consistent at this stage and a run of 3if resulted in his favour and gave him the lead at 123 to 53. Taylor gained ground in a good effort of 47, but his opponent soon after retaliated with a break of. 30. By consistent play, and making minor breaks at practically* every visit to the table, Tierney gained a good advantage and led to 305 to 200. Tierney earned applause for a well-played effort of 54. Taylor next added a run of 20. but the balls were invariably breaking badly for him. A break" of 21 by Taylor followed, but Tierney maintained his consistency and ran out a good winner by IG7 points. The final scores were:—T. Tierney. • 500 (breaks of 30. 33, 3& 29. 54 33, 29, 23 unfinished)/ F. Taylor, 033 (breaks of 25, 47, 20, 21 and 22). M D. White, the shield holder, will play W. E.
