AVONDALE WOMEN'S CLUB
The August meeting of the Avondale Women's Club, held in the Blockhouse Bay Hall this week, took the form of "children's day," when the entertainment was provided by young friends of members. Miss Newton presided. The following programme was presented: —Piano solo by Mavis Becroft; songs by Dorothy, Nancy and Jim Weir (trio), Mavis Becroft, Neavonne Wood; recitations by Nonie Rigden, Ronnie Dickson, Dorothy Cooke, Beulah Dickson, Margaret Whale, Muriel Browne, Alfred Bye, Margaret Half an, Bernice Cowling, Zita Leitcli, Bert Ellis; a two'-act play, "Freckles," in which the parts were taken by Shirley Metcalfe, Margaret Whale and Isabel Kelsall, and dances, •including, tapdancing, Highland ballet, Irish jig and hornpipe, all in appropriate costumes. An outstanding item was a song and dance, "Little Mister Baggy Breeches," by two small sisters in Dutch costume. At the conclusion tea was served under tho direction of Mrs. H. March and members of the committee.
