STATUS OF PERRY
NO CHANGE CONTEMPLATED PROFESSIONAL OFFER REFUSED (Received August 30, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. August 29 The English tennis champion F. J. Perry to-day refused an offer of 50,000 dollars from Mr. William O'Brien, an American promoter, to turn professional. Mr. O'Brien said Perry gave three reasons, namely, that he would have to pay nearly half the fee in British taxes; that ho would be ostracised at all British clubs; and that he is about to marry Miss Mary Lawson, an English stage star, and would not want to do anything to upset that plan now.
