GOLF VETERANS' CUP
TOURNAMENT AT ROTORUA THE FINAL MATCH TO-DAY O'CALLAGHAN AND HUGHES [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Thursday For the third day of the New Zealand veterans' golf tournament to-day conditions were perfect. Play was keen and finishes close. In his match against C. Kusabs in the third round for the Veterans' Cup J. S. Harrison registered seven threes to win. W. O'Callaghtm, conceding 13 strokes to A. J. Merrilees, was 4 up at the 13th, but just scraped home. The South Island player McGillevery took Trice to the 20th hole in the Arikikapakapa Cup contest, disconcerting his opponent by the unfailing accuracy of his putting. Results were: — VETERANS' CUP THIRD ROUND J. S. Harrison beat C. Kusabs, 3 and 2. W. O'Callaghan beat A. J. Merrilees, 1 up. A. J. Shepherd beat J. W. Barraclough, 3 and 2. ,T. G. Hughes beat W. G. Morrison, 3 and 2. SEMI-FINALS O'Callaghan beat Harrison, 4 and 3. Hughes beat Shepherd, 4 and 3. The final will be played to-morrow. There is 14 strokes difference in medal play handicap between O'Callaghan (4) and Hughes (18). O'Callaghan is at the top. of his form, but Hughes' play is most consistent. ARIKIKAPAKAPA CUP THIRD ROUND Matlieson beat Agmen Smith, 4 and 3. Barker beat Downer, 1 up. Hutchison beat Dunbar, 4 and 2. McGillevery beat Trice, on the 20 th SEMI-FINALS Barker beat Mathoson, 2 up. Hutchison beat McGillevery, on the 20th. The finalists are both Gisborne players. The former has had hard contests and is a good stayer, but has to concede two strokes. OTHER EVENTS First Stroke Handicap.—E. T. Baker (18), 63. Second Stroke Handicap.—C. S. Torlesse (17), 66. Best Aggregate Score. —C. Kusabs (13), 136. First Bogey Handicap.—J. M. Somerville, 1 up. Second Bogey Handicap.—J. S. Harrison, 2 up. Medal Foursomes. —H. B. Lusk and H, Horton.
Best Ball Bogey Handicap.—Ross and Phelan, 5 up. Dewar and Lawrence were also 5 up, but lost on the count back.
