THEFT OF MAIL BAG
CONTENTS DESTROYED GAOL FOR MAORI YOUTH [BY TELEGRAPH —OAVN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Thursday A serious view of a charge of theft against a Maori youth was taken by the Bench at a sitting of the Police Court at Port Awanui. The accused was Dick Parata, aged 19, who appeared before justices charged with the theft of a mail bag and its contents, the property of L. M. Gudgeon, of Tikitiki, and with having wilfully destroyed the bag and contents. On the first charge accused was sentenced to two months' imprisonment and on the second was convicted and discharged. Constable Barnes, who prosecuted, said that after the theft accused had burned everything.
