ENGLISH ARCHDEACONRY
FORMER NEW ZEALANOER THE REV. A. S. BEAN CHOSEN v A high English ecclesiastical office has been attained by a former New Zealander, the Rev. Arthur Selwyn Bean, who has been appointed Archdeacon of Manchester. ' Mr. Bean, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bean, of Christchurch, was lately appointed Canon Residentiary of Manchester Cathedral, and will be installed in both offices on September 20. He entered Keble College, Oxford, nearly 30 years ago and graduated B.A. in 1909. After studying at the Leeds Clergy School he was ordained deacon in 1910 and priest the following year by the Bishop of Worcester. Mr. Bean was curate of Rugby from 1910 to 1917, and was then successively vicar of Wrea Green, of Weaste. and from 1927 of the important parish of Astley, Manchester. He received an Oxford M.A. degree in 1913 and a B.I), degree of the University of Manchester in 1931.
