MAINLY FAIR TO FINE : ? RAIN DEVELOPING LATER The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued last evening by the Government meteorologist was as follows: —A shallow depression crossed the Dominion on Monday night and a fresh one has formed in the northTasman Sea. Pressure is higl? from southern Australia across the south Tasman Sea to beyond New Zealand. The indications are for freshening south-easterly winds about Cook Strait, elsewhere easterlies to northerlies prevailing, becoming strong in the far north, elsewhere moderate. Seag rough north of East Cape and rising in the Cook Strait area, otherwise smooth to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will be easterly to northerly winds, strong in the northern portion with rough seas, elsewhere moderate with smooth to moderate seas. The weather will be mainly fair to fine at first, but considerable clouds and rain will develop shortly in the far north, extending gradually southward over most of the Dominion. Temperatures mild in the north, moderate in the south. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST PROBABILITY OF RAIN The Government nieteorologist issued to the Herald last night the following special weather forecast for the Auckland Province: Moderate to strong and increasing easterly to northerly winds. The weather will cloud over and rain will set in, at first in the northern districts, but later becoming general. Temperatures mild. Seag rough on east coast, moderate on west.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The weather was fine and mild yesterday, but the sky was dull and cloudy. The wind continued unsteady and varied between north and east, increasing to a moderate breeze in the evening. The barometer rose .10in. during the 24 hours. The thermometer registered 63 degrees at four o'clock in the afternoon. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30,30 in, Midnight, Monday .. .. 30,20 in. Wellington.—A cold dull day, with misty rain at times, was experienced. There was a very light south-easterly wind. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 48.8 degrees, and the maximum for the day was 50 degrees^ Christchurch.—The weather was overcast with a chilly east-north-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 50.8 degrees. The barometer last evening was high and steady at about 30.20 in. Dunedin. —A light easterly breeze and fine sunny weather prevailed. The temperature at 8 a.m. was 40 degrees, and the maximum for the day was 56 degrees.
