MUSIC COMPETITIONS
COMMENCEMENT TO-DAY After a break of five years, musical competitions will be recommenced in Auckland to-day under the auspices of the Auckland Society of Musicians. The competitions will be held in the Lewis Eady Hall each morning and afternoon, while in the evening recalls from the day sessions will be judged. Keen interest has been taken in the festival, over 350 entries having been received, and it has been found necessary to extend the season from three days to four. Mr. H. Temple White, of Wellington, wili be the adjudicator. v The programmes each day have been arranged to provide the maximum of variety, and should prove of great interest to students of music. Competition in the ladies' section is very keen, while' all the pianoforte classes have drawn large entries. The festival will be officially opened by the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, this evening. The season will be concluded with a demonstration concert 111 the Town Hall concert chamber on Friday evening.
