ROAD TO KIOREROA
PROBLEM OF FINANCE ANOTHER CONFERENCE HELD [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHANGAREI. Friday A conference between the Whangarei Harbour Board and the Whangarei Borough Council in regard to road access from Kioreroa Wharf to the borough boundary was held this afternoon. tho Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, pre-
siding. Correspondence between the board and the Public Works Department with reference to the former's request for an increased contribution toward the cost of the road in view of the alternative route along tlio foreshore being adopted by the council was read. This route increased the distance of road to be constructed outside the borough boundary. The department replied that the grant already made of £2420 was a liberal contribution. The board and the council should arrange for completion of the road. An estimate was read showing the cost of the additional portion of the road as £I9BO. Mr. J. A. Finlavson, chairman of the Harbour Board, "said the conference was called with a view to determining how this money was to be provided. After discussion regarding the borough council's position* a suggestion was made that the Whangarei County Council should be asked to accept some responsibility in the construction of the road, and it was decided that a deputation from the Borough Council and Harbour Board should wait on the county council at its next meeting.
