TRANSPORT REGULATIONS
BENEFITS RECOGNISED [by TELEGKArH OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Thuroday A letter from the Wanganui County Council, criticising the Transport Act as creating a monopoly and increasing costs, was discussed at a meeting of the Cook County Council. It was stated by the chairman, Mr. C. Matthews, who is also a member of the Transport Licensing Authority, that the operation of the Act was not as ineffective as was sometimes contended. He said the object of the Act was to save empty trips and unnecessary miles, and to provide cheaper costs. That this was possible was evidenced by experience in regard to the Gisborne-Rotorua services, which had been co-ordinated, as the result of which fares had been decreased and profits increased.
