FIRST IRON BRIDGE
DECISION TO PRESERVE British Wireless RUGBY. August 14 The first iron bridge ever built, which spans the Severn in Shropshire, is to be preserved as an ancient monument. It was opened in 1779 and was considered so remarkable that engineers came from many countries to examine it and meet its constructor, Abraham Darby.
