BIRKENHEAD WOMEN
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A gathering of the Birkenhead Women's Association, held in the Buffalo Hall, was largely attended. The president, Mrs. W. B. Darlow, presided. The secretary, Mrs. R. R. Hayman, briefly reported on the welfare work in the borough, intimating the number of families assisted this winter, and stated that tlje funds received from the Metropolitan Unemployment Relief Committee were entirely devoted to assist the families of relief workers, while other necessitous cases were assisted with allocations made by the Prosperity Committee. A letter from the Birkenhead Unemployed Association con* veyed appreciation of tho prompt help given to a family in distress recently. A letter from the secretary, Mr. A. McNeilage, conveyed the thanks of tho. Birkenhead Servicemen's Association to the ladies for organising a card social to help the funds of the returned soldiers' organisation. The gathering endorsed the suggestion that owing to the inadequate wages of relief workers the Government be requested to grant free railway passes to married men in the camps, to enable them to visit their homes and families during the week-ends. A programme arranged by Mr. Robert Simmers was later enjoyed. Songs were given by Miss Madge laylor and Mr. R. Simmers; elocutionary items bv Miss Norali Slaney; duets by Miss M. Taylor and Mr. R. Simmers; .ind violin solos by Mr. Neville The accompanists were Miss Dorothy Simmers and Mr. Robert Simmers.
