WORK AT AIR BASE
RATES OF PAYMENT DEVONPORT COUNCIL'S VIEWS A recommendation that the work at the Hobsonville air base be carried out at standard wages, or that at least an extra day a week be conceded to the men was made in a report presented to the Devonport Borough Council last evening, from a meeting in committee. . The report was presented following a visit of Messrs. W. F. M. Mac Lean, J. Curtayne, G. E. Harnett, H. J. Hutchings and other representatives of North Shore boroughs to Hobsonvillo. After examining the work it was considered that the conditions were reasonable and that the men could earn more there than on No. 5 scheme work in the borough. The report was adopted. The Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, stated that the report had been conveyed to Mr. A. Harris, M.P. for Waitematft, with a suggestion that the men be allowed to work one extra day a week as some consideration for the time taken in travelling to and from the job.
