LADIES' HOCKEY
CLUB GAMES CONTINUED Better weather last Saturday enabled the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association to carry out its ordinary fixtures, five games in all being played, while Technical, Kiwi and Mount Eden had the bye in their respective sections. The grounds were comparatively good, although a little bumpy. Both Clevedon and Kiwi made a good showing and some nice hockey was displayed. On the day Kiwi was the better eleven, particularly in the latter part of the game, when Clevedon appeared to tire. There was plenty of hard hitting in the game. At half-time Clevedon had secured the only goal and was continually on the attack, putting in good work in midfiold, but showing weakness when within the circle. Kiwi's defence was sound, Miss Grace, in goal, floing well for her side although she was rather inclined to come out too far at times. The Misses Graham were, as usual, very prominent throughout, as also were Misses Francis, Bathgate and Waters. Miss Francis scored all of Kiwi's three goals in the second half, and the defence only •permitted the Clevedon team to score one additional goal after half-time. For Clevedon Misses J. Munro, in goal, and 1. Munro, in the halves, were noticed for good work. Miss It. Smith, in the forwards, .and Miss N. Munro were also prominent at times for Clevedon. . The second game, between Isgnro and Wesley, was of very even standard in the early stages, both teams taking their share on attack. t Ngaro was a player short. Even play continued throughout the first half. Wesley managing to net two goals during this period, one by Miss Simpson and the other from a difficult angle by Miss Smythe. Miss Bragg, for Ngaro, was on her usual game, and Mrs Jones, at centre-forward, was prominent. -The defence of both teams was sound, Miss White making many good saves for her side; After half-time Wesley gradually obtained the better of the and although the defence permitted Ngaro tp get through once and score a goal from a rebound, it had no difficulty in running out victors, 4 —l, Miss Smythe scoring a second goal and Miss llossiter also netting. It is anticipated that on Saturday week the Taranaki ladies' team will visit Auckland. A strong local team will be matched against the visitors.
