CHURCH DISPUTE

THE CAMBRIDGE PARISH REV. G. G. BELL'S POSITION ABANDONMENT OF APPEAL [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday The time allowed the Rev. G. G. Bell in which to lodge notice of appeal against the decision of Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in connection with the action taken by Bishop 0. A. Cherrington as minister in charge of St. Andrew's parish, Cambridge, and Messrs. C. W. Boyce and H. A. Watkins, church wardens, to recover books, keys, and sacred vessels belonging to the parish, expired to-day. Mr. Bell refrained from giving notice of appeal. He has also abandoned his intention to defend the action to be taken in the Supreme Court to recover from him possession of the vicarage. Mr. Bell stated to-day that he had no intention of handing over the chattels and the house, and that he was willing to enduro any consequences arising from his failure to go further with the civil proceedings. "It means that I have been forced back upon what has been my contention throughout, namely, that the matter is one which should be settled by the exercise of authority within the Church itself," he added.
