When stumps were drawn on Wednesday the county had lost three wickets for 20, in reply to Australia's first innings total of '221. Crooni, who had retired after scoring 10, owing to an injured hand, batted confidently to-day, making 51 out of 75 in 95 minutes, and hitting nine fours.

Wyatt was uncomfortable against Fleetwood-Smith", who got him legbefore with a ball which went through quickly. Santall and Cranmer hit hard, adding 50 in 45 minutes.
