DASH TO GRETNA GREEN
SEQUEL TO A DANCE A couple dashed from a dance in Glasgow early ono morniug a few weeks ago and drove to Gretna Green, where they were married at the smithy. The couple were Duncan McMillan, a coalcutter, and Miss Agnes Mclnnes King. They were engaged, and arrangements had been mado for a formal wedding in a Glasgow church in August. At the dance, however, they decided to make a sudden dash to Gretna Green in order to avoid the fuss and worry of a church wedding ceremony. They told some of their friends at the dance, and four of them consented to accompany the lovers. The bridal party arrived at the smithy shortly before seven o clock in the morning, but even at that early hour Mr. Georgo Rennison, the blacksmith, was ready to > marry them. He had, in fact, been got out of bed bv a charabanc party of sightseers on their way to Ayr races. It was their intention to return to Ayr later in the day, and they hoped to aurpriso their friends and relatives by the intimation of their runaway match.
