LOAD LIMITS EXCEEDED FINES TOTALLING £lO IMPOSED Fines totalling £lO 10s, with costs £1 10s, were imposed on E. J. Joyce, a carrier of Te Puke, in the Papakura Magistrate's Court yesterday, for conducting an unlicensed goods service, exceeding a road classification and exceeding tho licensed load. The charges were brought by the traffic inspector for the Main Highways Board, Mr. T. C. Clissold, who said that on July 3 he saw defendant's lorry on the main highway at Maramarua, when it was heavily laden with liquor and groceries. The gross weight was 5 tons 16cwt., which required a class H licence, whereas defendant held a class C licence which allowed 3J tons. The difference in the value was £4 ss. The road was for 4} tons. It was 190 miles from Auckland to Te Puke and defendant had taken a load - of furniture to Auckland, having obtained a special permit, continued the inspector, but the permit did not allow him to back load. In any case a special permit would not have been issued to back-load liquor and groceries. Defendant travelled on the classified road for a distance of about 40 miles.
Tho fine for conducting an unlicensed goods service was £2 10s, for exceeding the road classification £3, and for exceeding the licensed load £5, with costs. 10s in each case.
