THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE FIRMER BUYING TONE 'A firmer buying tone was shown in operations on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. There was an average turnover and most sales wore at unchanged to higher rates. Government loans remained strongly supported. In the 4 per cents, demand for the lv>4o issues was a shade easier, but buyers raised their limits for the 1P55 issues. Supplies were scarce and the only -tale was in 1933-52 3£ per cents, at £IOS 10s, a rise of £1 10s. Marked appreciation was shown by Amalgamated Brick (Wellington) debentures, which changed hands at £lO2 10s, a gain of £ll 10s in two months. Bauk levels had an upward tendency. Isew Zealands were sought 3d higher at 46s 6d and a lot was secured unchanged at that price, Reserve Banks had sale tAviqe 3d dearer at £6 6s 6*l, after which sellers lifted quotations. Bidding in Commercials gained 2d all round.

There was a steady inquiry for nnsurante shares. New Zealands were done unchanged at 62s 3d and Queensland fid higher at 70s. Offers for the leading industrials moved forward a shade and dealing was more widespread. In loan and agency Farmers' Auctioneerings changed hands at the current rate, 755, and Loan and Mercantiles were done £1 lower at £55. Westport-Stockton Coals, preference, gained 9d in a sale at ss, while Wellington Gas were transferred 6d dearer at 40s 3d. A 7 rise of 5s was established in a sale of Woolworths (,N.Z.) at £7 2s 6d. Consolidated Bricks advanced by 3d. in dealing at Bs, a parcel of New Zealand Drugs being secured at 77s 4d, a drop of 2d.
