PENSIONS FOR WIVES

SOLDIERS AND MARRIAGE MODIFICATIONS SOUGHT The subject of marriage was discussed at the last meeting of the Wellington Limbless Men's Association by the 33 limbless returned soldiers present. Pensions for wivgs were advocated, and it was decided to endorse the resolution of the Dominion Returned Soldiers' Association conference "That marriage contracted at any time after discharge should be accepted and war pensions paid to wives and widows accordingly, provided always that the exsoldier was in reasonable health at the time of marriage." Many soldiers were incapacitated while under the age of 21, it was said. They could-hardly be expected to get married within two years from the date of discharge, as laid down in the Act. Even if that limit was extended by legislation to seven years, it would still operate unfairly against some limbless men. It was decided to call a special- meeting of the committee and unemployed members to go into the question of finding permanent work for all unemployed limbless men.
