PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATE MR. W. P. ENDEAN APPOINTED [BS; TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Mr. W. P. Endean, member for Parnell, was appointed by the New Zealand branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association at its annual meeting to-day to represent the association at the Melbourne Centenary celebrations in November.

Mr. Endean will sail from Wellington by the Wanganella on October 25.

LONDON ROWING CREW CROQUET TEAM CHOSEN LONDON, August 7 It is now announced that the London Rowing Club's best possible crew of eight has been chosen for the Melbourne Centenary regatta, and will sail for Australia on August 18. The rowers are:—R. Forbes (bow), T. Boyland, A. Drake, P. Carpmale (Cambridge Blue 1930-31), D. J. Wilson, E. Howitt (captain), W. T. Sambell, T. Turner (stroke), and H. Winkworth (cox). C. Palmer will probably be first spare and D. Grogarty coach and second spare. Wilson and Sambell are Australian Cambridge blues. Mr. Howitt, the club secretary, says it is the fastest crew that , can be produced in England. All except Drake, who was in the Cambridge head-of-the-river crew, rowed in Ihe crew which won the grand challenge cups at Henley in 1932-33-34. The members averago 23 years in age, and 12st. 41b. in weight. A croquet team for the Centenary competitions will leave England on November 16. Colonel W. Dupre (handicap 3£), who is chairman of the council of the Croquet Association, and this year's open champion, with Sir Francis WemysS (handicap 1), Mr. E. L. Wardpetlev (handicap 1£) and Mr. H. Reginald Poulter (handicap 2}) will comprise the team. It will also visit New Zealand, leaving Australia for the Dominion in February.

When Victoria begins the celebration of its 100 th birthday next October, the State will enter upon unusual social activities, with demonstrations of industrial and cultural advancement unprecedented in its history. The chief guest will be Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester.

The sports programmes are immense. Exclusive of the England to Australia air raeo prize of £15,000, which is actually classed by the Centenary authorities as in the sports programme, £111,257 has been definitely scheduled; in racing (£98,200), golf (£0250), cycling (£2434), and yachting (£1373). liig prize money has yet to be added for trotting, country race meetings and club events to be held as Centenary functions. The trophies will total more than £2OOO extra when all have been scheduled. The Centenary committee s programme of sports for which trophies have not yet been definitely arranged takes in curling, tennis, pigeon racing, cross-country running, polo, bowls, lifesaving, rowing, sculling, inter-Empire school athletics, chess, croquet, swimming, diving, clay-bird shooting, track and field athletics, men's hockey, women's hockey, billiards, coursing, women's athletics and car-racing.
