THE ASSOCIATION GAME

FINAL OF CHATHAM CUP MATCH WANTED IN AUCKLAND FLYCER CUP TEAM'S TOUR The venue of the Chatham Cup final was discussed at length by the Auckland Football Association at its meeting last evening. Several members were in favour of recommending the New Zealand Council to play the final in Auckland. It was pointed out in favour of this proposal that, while the rules provided for the contest between the North and South Island finalists to take placo in Wellington, the absence this year of a Wellington team in the final, if played at Wellington, would rob the match of a considerable amount of local interest. As the New Zealand Council was meeting the expenses of the competing teams, the gate would be of vital importance. It was also pointed out that, even if the South Island finalists cainc from' Dunedin, the extra cost of travelling on from Wellington would be amply compensated for by the fact that the council would have the hotel expenses of one team only to meet, with an increased attendance consequent upon a local team playing such an important fixture. •• • ? It was agreed that, while the facts warranted the recommendation to play tho game in Auckland, the Thistle Club, which was the one concerned, should have the opportunity of discussing the matter before the New Zealand Council was approached. With a view to assisting the game in other centres, Mr. C. G. Ballantyne, together with other delegates, placed before tho board .details of a tour for a team of players under 21 years of ago. His proposal embraced a week's tour, from August 2G to September 2, during which time matches could be played against teams at New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Napier. He stated -that it was not the intention to take the Flyger Rose Bowl on tour, but he anticipated that a match for this trophy would be played at Hamilton on a later date. Several enthusiastic supporters had placed their cars at the disposal of the team at small cost, and Mr. Ballantyne predicted the tour would be a huge success. Permission to undertake the tour was git.rfed, and Messrs. Ballantyne and Flyger were congratulated on this forward movement. The board also agreed to donate £5 toward the expenses, and to render every assistance in getting in touch with the various associations. The question of the mid-week Business House competition was discussed, and Mr. | J. C. Sibbin reported that several clubs were eager to make a start. It, was decided to hold a meeting of the various clubs concerned on Tuesday next, to arrange for tho date of "the commencement of the competition. . _ , , The minor division committee recommended that the transfer of junior players cease from next Tuesday, bringing it into line with the cessation of senior transfers. This recommendation wn adopted. Congratulations were passed to the referee, Mr. B. Rickard, on his exhibition at Blandford Park last Saturday, and also to the Thistle Club on its performance in reaching the final of the Chatham Cup competition. Confirmation by tho New Zealand Council of. September 1 as the date for the match between Canterbury and Auckland for the English Trophy at Blandford Park was received. . The Wellington Football Association wrote, regretting that Auckland was unable* to travel to Wellington to play for tho Campbell Rose Bowl, but the opinion was expressed that it could appreciate Auckland's difficult position. The ( question of a meeting of the Auckland and Wellington Flyger Rose Bowl teams at Wellington was also inquired about, and the matter Was referred to the minor division committee.. • In view of the Centenary celebrations in Melbourne, and the consequent influx of visitors to Auckland, the Auokland Travel Club advised that it was calling a meeting of sports clubs, with' a view to staging a carnival, Mr. F.' M. Ritchie was appointed the association's representative at the meeting. Appreciation or the arrangements lor its I recent match in Auckland was received from the Huntly Starr Club. A motion of condolence with the widow and relatives of the late Mr. R t . C. Robinson, who was previously an active member of tho association, was passed. Ground officials were appointed as follows Blandford Park, Messrs. W. Walker, L. Munro; Domain, Mr. A. B. Cliappell; Onehunga, Mr. P. Neesham; St. Heliers, Mr. F. Baker.
