COUNTRY TELEPHONE HOURS [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] D-AROAVIT/LE, Wrdnesdny The Dargavillc Chamber of Commcrco met this week. Fourteen new members were enrolled and those in attendance were welcomed bv the president. Mr. T. G. Evison. it was suggested that the Dargaville Businessmen's Association and the chamber, whosie interests were similar, should pom bine. A special committee was appointed to confer with the memhers of the Businessmen's Association veith a view to amalgamation. A letter wan reeeh ed from the postmaster in reply to a suggestion that country telephone hours be extended. The letter stated that the department had no objection to telephonists observing longer hours if so desired, provided no extra remuneration was demanded. Another matter dealt with was the question of the Dargaville-Tnngowahine uncompleted railway. It was decided to join in with the Borough Council, the Hobson County Council and the Wliangarei public bodies at a public meeting, where a further request would be made to the Government to complete 'tho railway.
