OBITUARY
MR. ALFRED WEBB One of the pioneers of the Aratapu. and Te Kopuru districts, Mr. Alfred Webb, died at the residence of hiu sister, Mrs. Chadwick, at Aratapu on Wednesday. Mr. Webb, who was the last surviving son of the late Mr. Thomas Stirrup Webb, was 78 years of age. He came with the members of his family from Bilston, in Staffordshire, in the ship Gertrude, landing in New Zealand in 1563. They settled on their immigration grant at the foot of the Te Kopuru hill and were, associated * with the development of the district. Since the deaths of his sister and hia brother, he had resided with his other sister, Mrs. Chadwiek, who is now the only survivor of the family, MB. FREDERICK G. DAVIES [by ielegbaph—-press association] GRETiIOUTH, Wednesday The death has occurred of Mr. Frederick (i. Da vies, aged 55, a Labour inspector and unemployment officer. He was formerly town clerk at Otaki and electrical engineer at Pa tea and Te Aroha. He ioined the Labour Department at Palmerston North.
