VISIT FROM PETONE TEAM ENGLISH TROPHY CHALLENGE Several matters ' relative to representative fixtures were dealt with by tho control board of the Auckland Football Association at its meeting last evening, Pr. Neil McDongall presided, and a number of club delegates were in attendance. During the meeting the secretary was in telephonic communication with Wellington and, beyond the fact that tho Pelone team would be travelling to AuckInnd to contest the North Island final of the Chatham Cup, no further official details, as to time of arrival, or as to the appointment of referee and linesmen, were available. The hoard, therefore, could only make tentativci arrangements for the match, pending officinl information from the New Zealand Council. The South Auckland Association, in confirming September 22 for its match against Auckland, also requested a return match with its junior representatives, which were defeated by an Auckland junior eleven at Hamilton lijst Saturday. It was decided to grant the request and play the game at 12.30 p.m. on September 22. The eame association's request for Auckland to defend the Flyger Hose Bowl nt Hamilton wus referred to the, minor division committee. The Canterbury Association confirmed Septembor 1 as the dnte for its challenge match for the English Trophy at, Blandford Park Tho minor division committee advised the board that, owing to several postponements of junior games through wet weather, it would be unable to complete the third round of the championships, and intimated that it intended to close nominations for all junior knock-out competitions at its meeting next week. It also msde application for the playing of an early curtain-raiser by primary schools' repre sentatives at Blandford Park on Saturday, August IB A further communication wrs received from the junior division committee, relative to its previous conference with the board regarding the match between New Lynn and Metro College. The board agreed to a replay of the game. Details of travelling arrangements were forwarded by the Taranaki Association for its forthcoming visit on September 22. The Thistle Club applied for a tentative date to piny a friendly match nt Auckland with Glen Afton. Several members expressed the opinion that such a game would bo impossible, as Thistle had several outstanding fixtures yet to complete. The matter was referred to the grounds and fixtures committee. Congratulations were received from the New Zealand Council, relative to the success of Auckland in tho recent English Tiophy match, and also to the favourable report on the gome by the referee.
