HEAVY-WEIGHT BOXING
WIN FOR STRICKLAND SINGLETON KNOCKED OUT [BY TELEGRAPH —I"RKS§ ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Wednesday A heavy-weight boxing contest, between Maurice Strickland (12st. 111b.), of Wellington, and George Singleton (13st. 61b), of Invercargill, was staged here this evening, Singleton being knocked out in the fourth ronnd. Strickland dropped Singleton for nine in the first round. Apart from the two blows that knocked him down, Singleton out-boxed Strickland, but was unable to stand up to the latter's right. As a result of this contest Strickland has been selected to meet Ambrose Palmer here on August 18. In a preliminary bout W. Pascoe (12st. 121b), of Invercargill, defeated M. Soane (list. 121b.), of Motueka. on points, the decision meeting with a mixed reception.
