THE LEAGUE CODE

WAITANGI MAORI SHIELD TAMAKI TEAM'S PROPOSAL TUAKAU AND WAIUKU JOIN The Auckland Rugby League Board of Control, with Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, received a letter last evening from the Rev. B. Panapa, as chairman, 011 behalf of a proposed Tamaki team, representative of the isthmus between Auckland and Onehunga, challenging for the Waitangi Maori Shield. It was asked that the matter bo referred to the New Zealand Council, as it was considered the competition would do much to further the game among Maori people. The board expressed pleasure at the challenge, but decided to await finality as regards the coming fixture between Hawke's Bay and South Auckland. The matter of playing special trial matches between Tuakau, Waiuku and Auckland teams to decide the Auckland team for the shield was also discussed.

Mr. Campbell said the Auckland Leaguo still had a heavy programme of matches ahead, including the completion of the championship, the Roope Rooster knockout, special fixtures and a possible Sydney team visit, and, with Waitangi Shield matches now in view, some definite arrangements would have to be reached at an early date. The New Zealand Council's, ruling on rule 43, stating that it had constitutional authority to control club tours from Australia, was considered in committee. _ t _ , It was reported that the Marist Club had granted the transfer of certain players to the Mount Albert Club, which intimated its decision to nominate a team for the Roopo Rooster knockout. The chairman said this* was a satisfactory conclusion to the matter,. and tbo Mount Albert Club b letter could not bo dealt with pending the receipt of the players' applications. It was iesolved that the Tuakau League bo accepted as a sub-league of the Auckland League as from June 1, and Waiuku as from July 17. , In reply to a letter from the Otahuhu Club asking that its appeal against the upholding of the junior management committee's decision to play the second grade championship in three rounds be sent to the New Zealand Council, it was resolved to state that the Auckland League was the final authority according t9 constitution. Answering several complaints about losses by players and referees at various grounds, the chairman Baid the Auckland League could not take responsibility m such matters. An application for the use_ of Carlaw Park for mechanical hare racing was referred to the chairman to confer with the CJub SU gg eß t e d that the Auckland selectors should not belong to clubs or hold any official position m the League, and also that an independent judicial committee be set up. The first matter, it was decided, could be represented totne board by a meeting of club delegates. With regard to the second question, the board was already an independent body, with judicial" capacity. ■ _ The following registrations were granted: —T J. O'Leary, Devonport United; J. Perry W C.
